The growth and development of any business or company is highly looked at from its beginning. This means the history of any business is very important. You will never be able to tell whether you are making any positive moves without looking at your history. In this article, we will look at the history of Roblox, when it was made, who are founders, and its journey to where it is now.
Founders Of Roblox:
Roblox was created by Erik Cassel and David Baszucki in 2004. The first to be launched was the beta version of Roblox, which is identified as Dynablocks. Dynablocks was first released to the public in 2004. However, in 2005, they decided to rename Roblox after they realized Dynablocks was not easy to remember.
In the beginning, it was known as Roblox v.10 in accordance with Domain Tools screenshots. The website was then able to come out of beta, and the official launch was made in 2006. The original currency was known as Roblox points. These points were earned by either playing minigames or logging in daily.
In 2006, the developers saw the need for improving the game, and they added more features between 2006 and 2007. Some of the features they added include the search bar, private messages, Roblox badges, customization, among others. All these features were added on 22nd of December in 2006.
Roblox then became compliant with COPPA in March 2007 after the addition of safe chat. Safe chat is a chat mode that limits gamers under the age of 13 years to communicate with other gamers. Gamers communicated by clicking the ‘messages’ icon from a menu.
This was not all; on 14th May 2007, Robux was launched as the currency that was to replace Roblox Points. Three months later (August 2007), they introduced a new currency, tickets to the app. The premium membership, commonly known as the ‘Builders Club,’ was availed on 16th of August in 2007.
Roblox decided to go all out and try many different ways of adding value to their gaming site. For that reason, they launched the Roblox Rally 2011. This was Roblox’s first convention, and it was held on the 1st of August in 2011 in San Francisco. In 2012, they held a similar event, and this time, they titled it Roblox Game Conference 2012, which was held in 2012. In 2013, they held a subsequent even entitled Bloxcon 2013, which was held in London, Chicago, and New York.
An unexpected thing happened on 1st April 2012 when the site compromised the site. This enabled a stranger to vandalize the website and added banners with offensive content to the site. Although some players benefitted from the mess as they were awarded large quantities of Robux, others lost.
Roblox’s response was to take the site down for maintenance for just a few hours. It resumed operation on 2nd of April. Two days later (4th April), they terminated and banned the IP of all the gamers who were actively involved in the hacking.
